Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez confirmed at a press conference on Saturday that he has held talks with Lionel Messi about a possible return to the Catalan side next summer.
"We have our priorities clear. I would very much like Messi to come back. He knows that because I have spoken to him. I would be very excited. Leo is an exceptional player. But it is a very personal decision," Xavi told reporters.
The Spaniard admitted that the Catalan giants are waiting for a response from La Liga to solve their financial problems in order to sign new players: "I have not been able to talk to any footballers because we may not be able to sign new players. The situation does not allow me to do so at the moment."
Xavi also spoke about the last game of the season against Celta Vigo and his expectations for this match: "We want to end this campaign on a high note. We want to win. Lewandowski's top goalscorer award is up for grabs as is Ter Stegen's record. The players have been training very well," he added.
Finally, the Spanish boss said the board "offered him a renewal" as his current contract expires in 2024: "The president offered me a renewal when we lost the Copa del Rey semi-final. Hopefully we can be together for many years to come," he concluded.
