Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich will face former teammate Robert Lewandowski as Barcelona host Bayern Munich in the Champions League league-phase on Tuesday. Ahead of the clash, the pair were joined by Harry Kane for the press conference, as the players were asked quesions by the outlet 'Bild'.
“Lewandowski is the striker I have played with the longest and most intensely, I had a special relationship with him on the pitch but that relationship doesn't exist on Wednesday so I won't pass the ball to him," Muller told 'Bild', ending his responde with a lighthearted joke. Muller assisted 64 of the striker's 334 goals for Bayern.
When asked about the duel between the England captain and the Barcelona striker, Kimmich was quick to praise both, while also ackowledging their different types of playstyles. "Harry is someone who likes to participate in the game and can sometimes make dozens of passes while Lewi is more focused on scoring goals, both help their teams a lot with their style," he said, insisting that the two "cannot be directly compared". Kane followed by praising Lewandowsky, naming him "one of the best strikers of his generation".
Kimmitch also spared some words for former manager Hansi Flick. "Playing against Barcelona is always special, and playing against Hansi is of course also very special. Flick is one of the coaches who have done incredible things for Bayern like Heynckes or Guardiola. It will definitely be a special match for us," he revealed.
