The first ever winter World Cup is less than five months away and quadruple headers will take place almost every day during the group stage. The action gets underway with Senegal versus Netherlands on Sunday 20th November. There are eight groups of four and we will be turning our attentions to group B.
England face Iran in the first game of the group at 14:00 CEST while USA take on Wales on the same day at 20:00 CEST. The top two from the group qualify from the group stages. England and Wales are the favourites to progress to the last 16, but Iran and the USA will make it difficult for them.
England reached the last four of the 2018 World Cup before losing the Euro 2020 final on penalties. However, they have been short of goals recently and been heavily reliant on Harry Kane. If they are to go far at the tournament, they need Kane to bring his A-game. Otherwise, an early exit and the possible sacking of Gareth Southgate could be on the cards.
Iran are no mugs though. In previous World Cups, they have pushed the likes of Argentina all the way and only lost to them in 2014 through a stoppage time Lionel Messi goal. Iran have some quality players with star striker Mehdi Taremi of Porto their most dangerous attacker. Sardar Azmoun of Leverkusen and Feyenoord's Alireza Jahanbakhsh are also players to look out for.
Wales are in the World Cup for the first time in 64 years and that means there is no pressure on them. Captain Gareth Bale is their bnest player, but the likes of Kieffer, Daniel James, Joe Rodon and Neco Williams cannot be ignored. They are likely to come second in the group, but beating England is certainly not out of the question.
USA, who drew 1-1 with England at the 2010 World Cup, are the final team in the group and they also have some exciting players to look out for. They have Sergino Dest in defence, Leeds' Tyler Adams and Juventus' Weston McKennie in midfield as well as some very exciting young strikers. Christian Pulisic of Chelsea, Giovanni Reyna of Dortmund and Norwich's Josh Sargent are the men to look out for. In fact, the squad is a very young one as only player is over the age of 30 and just three are older than 27.
While you sit back and enjoy the matches, why not have a bet? Betway has odds of 1.28 for England to beat Iran, proof that they believe Southgate's men will begin their campaign with three points.
