Ajax confirmed Gero Rulli's addition to their squad on Friday. However, the former Villarreal man was not the first choice, as the Dutch side had previously been turned down by Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Andriy Lunin does not want to leave Real Madrid in the winter transfer window. The Ukrainian goalkeeper, despite knowing that it is practically impossible for him to play, barring injury or suspension, has rejected several offers.
The latest, according to 'Relevo', is Ajax. The Dutch side were looking for a goalkeeper and approached Real Madrid, but the keeper said he was going to stay at the 'Merengues'.
Ajax had to look for another option, and they found it in Geronimo Rulli, who has already left Villarreal to join the Dutch giants.
Lunin's contract with Real Madrid expires in 2024. Thibaut Courtois is ahead of him, and given the performance of the Belgian goalkeeper, getting playing time is a pipe dream for the Ukrainian.
Premier League and Bundesliga teams are keeping an eye on him, while the goalkeeper will have to decide this summer whether to leave or renew his contract.
