The Asian tour of Saudi Arabian team Al Nassr FC, which features Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo, has been officially postponed due to an injury to the former Real Madrid player, the match organisers said on Tuesday.
Organisers of the matches, which would pit the Saudi Arabian side against Shanghai Shenhua and Zhejiang FC in the southern city of Shenzhen on 24th and 28th January respectively, reported that "due to Cristiano Ronaldo's fitness", the Madeira striker "would not be able to play".
In addition to confirming the refund of all tickets, which were sold out within minutes of going on sale, and of travel expenses, the organisers said they were already in talks to arrange a new date for the matches, according to local press.
"I apologise to all the Chinese fans. I know everyone is sad, and so am I," said Ronaldo, who attended the press conference where the news was confirmed. "As you know, in football there are things you can't control," added the player, who stressed that, for him, "China is a second home".
