France defender William Saliba explained that Kylian Mbappe was "better" after suffering a broken nose in his side's match against Austria. This physical problem keeps him in doubt for the clash against the Netherlands on the second day of Group D at Euro 2024.
"When I saw him this morning, he was a bit better. He was going for further tests. I don't know more. The good news is that when I saw him this morning he was better," the centre-back told reporters. Meanwhile, the Frenchman admitted that he did not expect to start the opening game of Euro 2024.
"I didn't expect it, although when you are called up you have to be ready to help the team at any time," he said. "I'm in a good moment, I'm starting to have a lot more confidence in myself when I play for the national team," the defender continued.
But he acknowledged that there were "two or three situations" that the defence could have dealt with better. "Maignan saved us. We're going to try to do even better," he added.
The next test is the Netherlands, who will have almost two days more rest than France. "We're not going to start looking for excuses. We know it's going to be a tough game against a very strong team.
"It's a decisive match for us. We're going to give everything to win it. The Netherlands have a lot of top players. I saw the game against Poland and there was a lot of intensity. They will do the same against us," he concluded.
