Arsenal have made a statement of intent as they look to dethrone Manchester City in the Premier League, beating Nottingham Forest convincingly at Emirates to begin their 2023/24 campaign.
The Gunners picked up their first three points of the season but it was not all good news. Jurrien Timber, who joined Mikel Arteta's side for 40 million euros from Ajax, had to be replaced in the 50th minute due to injury.
The Spanish manager decided to replace the Dutch defender with Takehiro Tomiyasu in order not to force him. The centre-back's injury is still unknown but the 22-year-old was able to walk on his own feet.
Timber had shown good pace and his progress in adapting at Arsenal has been admirable. He made his debut in the MLS All-Star game in the United States. Moreover, he played as a starter in pre-season friendlies against Manchester United, Monaco and Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta provided an update on his injury in the post-match press conference.
"The officials, the doctors, they looked at him and they were happy to continue, him as well, but straight away in the second half the first action he made a movement and it was a bit funny so we took him straight out and now we have to assess him to see what he has," he told reporters.
