Dani Olmo's display at Euro 2024 and the fact that his 60-million-euro buyout clause expires on Saturday have made him the star of the transfer market. Suddenly, Atletico Madrid have become favourites to secure his services.
The Leipzig star is keen to return to Spain and, although Diego Simeone's side were not his ideal destination, he is willing to play in La Liga with them, according to 'Bild'.
Both Manchester City and Barcelona were also interested in his transfer. The Catalans even met with the Spaniard's inner circle, but they do not have enough financial leeway to afford his transfer, nor to combine it with other higher-priority transfers such as that of Nico Williams.
The Sky Blues were alerted to the opportunity offered by the transfer window because of Kevin de Bruyne's approaches to the Saudi league, although the feeling is that the Belgian's statements were not a warning, but an exercise in sincerity with a view to a rather distant future.
Dani Olmo would like to sign for a team capable of winning titles in the short term, but he sees the attraction of becoming the more recognisable face of Atletico Madrid, where he knows he will be treated with the utmost respect and as a high-profile addition.
