Two more Atletico Madrid members have been expelled by the club following incidents with Thibaut Courtois in the La Liga derby against Real Madrid, the Spanish club said in a statement on Friday.
"The identification of those involved in the incidents of last Sunday's derby that our security department is carrying out in collaboration with the police has led to the location of two more people who were involved in the altercations. Both are members of the club and will be permanently banned, as was the case with the person involved who was identified on the night of the match," said Atletico.
The events took place in the second half of the derby against Real Madrid. After chants of "Courtois, die" from the south end of the stadium, where members of the ultra group Frente Atletico are located, the goalkeeper celebrated his team's goal, which provoked a shower of lighters and other objects that, fortunately, did not hit the goalkeeper.
The referee, after speaking to Courtois, stopped the game for 17 minutes to try to calm things down, while Gimenez, Koke and Simeone went to the stands to ask for calm. Finally, in stoppage time, Atletico equalised.
"The investigation to identify those involved is ongoing and the club will proceed with the permanent expulsion of all members involved in these incidents," the club reiterated.
