Mario Balotelli's return to Italian football is just hours away from being finalised, according to local media reports. The player, who finished his contract with Adana Demirspor in June, is all set to join Genoa. He has not played since 12 May, a match in which he was also sent off.
The urgency of the team that lost Mateo Retegui, who was signed on an emergency deal from Atalanta following the injury of compatriot Gianluca Scamacca, and the recent injuries to Junior Messias, Vitinha and Caleb Ekuban have forced the club to look at the free agent market.
It was there that Balotelli, 34, emerged as one of the options who looks set to become Alberto Gilardino's new striker after several weeks of assessment.
The forward, who has been training on his own in Brescia, will sign a contract until the end of the season, until June 2025. Balotelli could get his first minutes next Thursday in the Serie A clash at home to Fiorentina.
