Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski's poor season is causing a stir. The Pole is no longer an untouchable for Xavi Hernandez and this has been seen in the fact that the Catalan does not hesitate to withdraw the striker from the pitch when things do not go well.
The latest to comment on the situation was Michal Probierz, Poland coach, who, in a statement for ‘TVP Sport’, did not hesitate to defend his striker: "Robert is Barca's top scorer and it has to be said that the team has not helped him".
"He was often in a good shooting position, but the ball never reached him. In the last game, when he got the cross, he scored a goal. Very nice, by the way," he added. The goal the coach made reference to was the one scored by the Pole against Rayo Vallecano after a superb assist from Lamine Yamal.
Furthermore, Probierz stressed how important Lewandowski has been for the ‘"Cules" in these two years: ‘’ Barca were in a disastrous form and Robert was the player who tried to lift the team, but there was a moment when Barcelona fell out of the fight for titles and the morale of the squad dropped‘’.
Robert Lewandowski has made 48 appearances this season, scoring 25 goals and providing eight assists. Last season the Polish striker scored 32 goals in 46 games and also won the ‘Pichichi’ award.
Michal Probierz has backed a player who must give him plenty to do at the next European Championship if his team are to go far in the tournament. Lewandowski will have the chance to improve on his season if he does well in Germany.
