Barcelona claimed a hard-fought victory against Cadiz in what was the prelude to the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against PSG. Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez appeared in the press room and gave his first impressions of the match.
"We knew we were going to suffer. They have improved a lot in their pressing after a loss. The team played a very good game in terms of seriousness and professionalism. We wanted to keep putting Madrid under pressure. People who are less involved have been at a great level. These are three vital points," he began.
He also had words of praise for Pellegrino: "Mauricio helped me a lot during our time together and I wish him all the best in Cadiz".
"I have a very good relationship with the players, I believe in the family we are within the group. I knew we were going to take a step forward. I think we have improved as a group. We are defending better, we have that extra bit of ambition. We are in the best moment of the season. We're competing very well today," he added of the team's reaction.
The Catalan boss was full of praise for Joao Felix: "Joao is a very talented player. He's happy and had a great game. He scored a great goal, but he also works hard and presses. We give him freedom of movement so that he can show his talent. Today he did a marvellous job".
He went on to praise the work of the team: "We have improved tremendously as a group. We haven't lost a game for three months now. I see the team doing very well. We're in a great momentum and we have to take advantage of it".
Finally, Xavi discussed the challenges ahead for Barca: "Now comes the best, the most beautiful, the most exciting. It's the perfect stage for us to compete. We have a tremendous footballing war on Tuesday and then 'El Clasico'. We want to do something big, knowing that things are complicated".
