Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who had to be replaced in Saturday's La Liga match against Celta Vigo, has sprained his right ankle, the Catalan club announced.
"Tests carried out have shown that Frenkie de Jong has a high right ankle sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability," Barcelona wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The 26-year-old could be out of action for a month, meaning he is likely to be sidelined for between five and seven weeks. His absence is a huge blow for the Catalan giants as they face Real Madrid on 28th October.
Barcelona's next three games are next Tuesday against Mallorca in Palma, three days later at home to Sevilla and on 4th October in the Champions League in Porto.
