Barcelona will face Monaco in the 59th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Lluis Companys Stadium on 12 August at 20.00 CEST, the Catalan club announced on Monday. The traditional summer tournament, which will serve as a presentation of new German coach Hansi Flick in front of the fans, will be the last test before the Catalan side kick off the season on 17 August against Valencia in La Liga.
Prior to that, Barcelona will play three friendlies against Manchester City (31 July), Real Madrid (4 August) and AC Milan (7 August) during their pre-season tour of the United States.
Monaco, who were last season's Ligue 1 runners-up and will celebrate their 100th birthday on 23 August, will be the fourth Ligue 1 team to take part in the Joan Gamper Trophy after Nantes (1966), Sochaux (1989), Olympique de Marseille (1991) and Bordeaux (1993).
Moreover, Flick knows coach Adi Hutter, as the two met four times when the German coach was at Bayern Munich and the Austrian at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Finally, this will be the fourth edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy to be held on Montjuic - after 1990, 1996 and 2023 - and will have a special significance as it will be the presentation of the squad to the fans in the year of the club's 125th anniversary.
