Former Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger believes current Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso will end up coaching Liverpool and believes it could happen soon.
"I know Xabi and I think his big dream is to coach Liverpool and I can imagine it will be this summer when he leaves," the former Bayern player told German television's First Channel (ARD).
Xabi Alonso played between 2004 and 2009 for Liverpool, with whom he won the 2005 Champions League. He then moved on to Real Madrid and Bayern, where he was Schweinsteiger's team-mate for one season.
Schweinsteiger's comments come just days before Bayer Leverkusen's key game against Bayern. The Spanish coach's side are currently top of the Bundesliga, 2 points ahead of the Bavarian club.
Xabi Alonso was unwilling to give a clear answer when asked if he plans to stay in Germany next season. "It's a direct question, but I don't have an answer," he replied to a question on the matter.
