Chelsea first-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was expected to be loaned to Bayern this summer, is set to join Real Madrid to replace Thibaut Courtois, who is likely to miss the 2023/24 season due to injury.
His transfer is an open secret. 'Los Blancos' have not yet confirmed his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. However, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen announced the Spaniard's decision ahead of schedule.
"We were close to this deal and we actually wanted to present Kepa today. But he chose to join Real. He’s Spanish and so Kepa wanted to accept their proposal," Dreesen told reporters.
The German giants are looking for a world-class goalkeeper to replace Manuel Neuer, who broke his leg in a skiing accident in December. They are interested in Sevilla's Yassine Bounou, for whom they offered €12 million but were turned down, and Ajax's Geronimo Rulli.
