The Canadian Soccer Federation has alleged that one of its players suffered racist comments on social media following the team's loss to Argentina on Thursday in the opening match of the Copa America.
"Canada Soccer is aware of and deeply disturbed by the racist comments made online and directed at one of our men's national team players following tonight's match," the statement said. "We are in communication with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL on this matter."
Colorado Rapids defender Moise Bombito was reportedly severely insulted on his Instagram account. The defender was involved in one of the controversial plays of the match, making a hard tackle in the second half on Leo Messi, which left the Argentina captain sore on the pitch, although he was able to continue playing.
