To talk about Gary Lineker and Frank Lampard is to talk about two of the greatest legends of English football. From different eras and both long retired, this summer they are enjoying the European Championship as spectators. In fact, during the broadcasting of the competition, the two have coincided on the 'BBC' set.
Despite the good feeling between the two, there were some tense moments on British television on Wednesday, when a joke by Lineker left Lampard looking a little unfriendly and very angry.
While analysing the Germany-Hungary clash, the Match of the Day presenter commented that if the giant screen behind the 'BBC' set at the Brandenburg Gate were removed, the 'BBC' viewers would be able to see clearly all the fans cheering the match.
To this comment, Lampard responded jokingly. "They’d see my head! They wouldn’t turn up for that," said the Chelsea legend. A phrase that was used as a punchline by Lineker to make a joke about Lampard. "No, you’re right, nobody wants to see the back of your head these days! That’s for sure," he said, joking about Lampard's lack of hair in this area.
Lineker's words did not sit well with the former Chelsea player, who quickly grasped what Lineker meant. His face changed completely, looking angry and causing moments of tension on the set.
Gary Lineker has already said publicly that he will apologise to Lampard after what happened and due to the commotion that the moment caused on social networks.
