Frank Lampard is very close to returning to the bench. Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who has been out of coaching since the end of the 2022-23 season, is being targeted by Coventry City, who are in the Championship's bottom half.
Florian Plettenberg, a transfer market journalist for 'Sky Sport', has reported that talks between the parties are at an advanced stage, but that nothing has been finalised as there are still details to be worked out.
The Championship side are pushing for Lampard, whose career in the dugout began in the second tier of English football. He started out at Derby County, where he spent the 2018-19 season, and from there he moved to Chelsea, where he spent two seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21).
After his time at Stamford Bridge, the manager signed for Everton in January 2022 and lasted just one year in charge. He was only out of work for 3 months because fate brought him back to the Blues, which he managed until the end of the season.
His last match in charge was on 28 May 2023, a Chelsea-Newcastle match that ended in a draw (1-1). Almost a year and a half has passed since then and Coventry City are determined to make him the replacement for Mark Robins, who was sacked on 8 November last year after more than seven and a half years at the club.
