Atletico Madrid once again counted on the best Rodrigo de Paul in the visit to Osasuna in the La Liga 19th matchday. The Argentine put in a great performance that was crowned with an assist to Saul for the winning goal. He was briefly interviewed by 'Movistar' after the match, as the MVP. In front of the microphones, he recalled the defeat against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey and the affection that Saul, a goalscorer, has for the 'Colchoneros'.
"What does it mean to win after the derby? To bounce back and face up to a blow that was undeserved. It's a win that gives us a lot in terms of morale, a lot. My assist? If I can help the team in that aspect, which is what I like the most, I'm delighted. Saul also deserved it for the way he has been working, for his confidence. We're very happy because we're all important", he said at the start.
Asked for more thoughts on Saul, he commented: "He's a home-grown boy who works a lot, everyone knows how he feels about this club. These are three vital points and also very important for him". On the Copa del Rey, he said: "It's a competition that we were really looking forward to, always knowing that the most important thing is to get into the Champions League to continue to make an impact. But, if we continue like this, we'll give the fans a lot of joy".
Both Rodrigo de Paul and Saul became unexpected heroes at a time of uncertainty for them. The Spaniard is close to signing for Valencia before the end of the winter transfer window. The Argentinian, after some post-World Cup controversy in Qatar, was even whistled by the fans at the Cívitas Metropolitano.
