Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said he does not need a "sense of revenge" to face Real Madrid, but said that never having beaten the Spanish side is "disappointing".
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the Dutch centre-back spoke about this week's clash with the La Liga side, a club Liverpool have not beaten in their last eight meetings, drawing just once in that time, losing two Champions League finals and being knocked out twice, in the last 16 and quarter-finals of the competition.
"To be honest, I don't need the feeling of revenge to be ready. But it's the Champions League. It's a big game, a very nice duel for the neutral fan and we want to dominate and get a win," said Van Dijk.
"I've never beaten them. That record is disappointing, so we have to bounce back and be ready for this game," added Van Dijk. Liverpool go into Wednesday's game as favourites, leading the Premier League with 31 points from 36 and the Champions League with 12 points from 12.
