Memphis Depay has become an undisputed starter in Atletico Madrid's attack after overtaking Angel Correa and Alvaro Morata. However, the Dutch striker was forced off in the first half of the La Liga encounter against Rayo Vallecano due to muscle problems.
The Spanish side confirmed his injury and posted a medical statement on social media on Wednesday. The 29-year-old is suffering from a right thigh injury and his recovery time will depend on his progress over the coming days.
"Our player will start receiving physiotherapy sessions, will undergo rehabilitation training and is pending evolution. He's suffering from a muscle injury in his right thigh, according to tests he underwent on Tuesday morning," they wrote on their website.
It's unknown how long he will be unavailable but the striker is likely to miss the next La Liga meeting against Sevilla on Sunday at the Civitas Metropolitano.
