During the Sunday morning's training session ahead of the Nations League clash against Italy, France boss Didier Deschamps spoke up on Kylian Mbappe's situation.
Mbappe has been at the centre of media talk after missing out on consecutive international breaks with the national team, with critics questioning his commitment to his country as team captain.
Despite the backlash, Deschamps has backed the Real Madrid forward, revealing that he is going through a tough period in his career. "He's in a difficult situation," the head coach began. "I believe he will be back, even though he was less impactful this season," he added.
Speaking on his role at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti, Deschamps insisted that while Mbappe should not be utilised as if he was Giround or Haaland, he is able to cover other positions in attack. "Mbappe is not a pure 9 like Olivier Giroud, but he can play various other roles in attack," he said, as he also added: "Obviously he doesn't have Olivier's profile, but then again, it depends on the opponent."
