Edson Alvarez was about to become a Chelsea player last summer, when the English side tried for, and failed to sign him. The Ajax wanted to talk about it and admitted to being "very disappointed", as a move to the Premier League would have meant a "better league" and a "better life" for him and his family.

Edson Alvarez could be wearing the Chelsea shirt right now, as they tried and failed to get him last summer. The Mexican player, who is under contract at Ajax until 2025, ended up staying in the Netherlands, where he has just started his fourth season.
And it was this possible move to the Premier League that the ex-Club America player wanted to talk about to ESPN: "As a player, you're aware that signing for Chelsea would have changed everything: a better league, a better life for you and your family".
"That is what it is about for me. I'm here for my love for football, but also for my family. I am really disappointed, but I'm convinced that one day a big club will come knocking", Edson added about his frustrating non-move to London.
To close on the subject, he added: "We weren't expecting Chelsea to put another offer in at the end of August. It was a difficult situation, Ajax couldn't do anything".
