Dutch midfielder Donny Van de Beek, who joined Girona last month from Manchester United, said on Tuesday that he is confident he will be back to his best "as soon as possible".
After two seasons without more than 10 appearances due to injury woes, Van de Beek is looking for a return to the level he showed at Ajax, who reached the semi-finals of the 2018-19 Champions League.
Under the orders of Michel Sanchez and with the challenge of being a key player for the team in their Champions League debut, he aims to "leave the past behind him with a very powerful project".
"It's a big challenge for me and I want to focus on succeeding here and helping the team," said the 27-year-old Dutchman during his presentation, after Girona shelled out half a million euros plus variables to bring him in.
After a historic season for Girona, with a third place finish in La Liga that earned them a ticket to the Champions League, Van de Beek was positive of repeating the feat next season.
However, the midfielder pointed out that playing in the Champions League "is not the main reason for signing for Girona" and considers this new chapter in his football career to be "a big step forward".
"We are a team that has shown that we can make things difficult for top teams. This is a new season, but I'm very confident that we can do it again," concluded Van de Beek.
