Gabriel Barbosa, 'Gabigol', confirmed on Sunday, after winning the Copa do Brasil with Flamengo, that the match against Atletico Mineiro was his “last final” with the Carioca team, which he will leave at the end of this season.
“I'm not staying at Flamengo. This was my last final,” Gabigol told the ‘Globo’ television network after the conclusion of the match against Mineiro and amid the chant "stay" chanted by fans of the Carioca team.
Gabigol admitted that this season he has not performed as expected, but attributed it to a case of alleged doping that kept him away from the pitch for a month and also to the “attitude of a coach” who did not “respect him ”, referring to former coach Tite, who led Flamengo until the end of last September.
The striker recovered his spirit and his game under coach Filipe Luis, who replaced Tite and on Sunday won his first title as coach.
Gabigol was crucial in Flamengo's 3-1 win over Mineiro in the first leg, scoring a brace. On Sunday, in the second leg, he did not shine or score, but created chances the few times he got the ball.
Gabigol, 28, arrived at Flamengo in 2019 and was part of the squad that conquered the Brazilian Championship and the Copa Libertadores that same year.
The player did not clarify his next destination, but sources quoted by the local press place him at Cruzeiro, which had already expressed interest in signing him.
