England's Conor Gallagher has rejoined the Blues after spending a few days in Madrid waiting for his transfer to Atletico Madrid to be completed. However, the 'Colchoneros' have not managed to tie down (at least not yet) the midfielder and he has had no choice but to return to training.
In order to secure his transfer, the Madrid side must manage to sell a player of their ranks. Speculation is rife that Joao Felix could be on his way to Chelsea after Samu Omorodion's arrival at Stamford Bridge fell through.
With no progress being made, Gallagher returned to London and was put under Enzo Maresca's orders on Wednesday. His incorporation into the squad does not mean that the transfer saga is over, far from it.
Fabrizio Romano maintains that "the crazy saga continues and has not yet been cancelled by all parties involved". In other words, new chapters still await us.
Chelsea have already let Gallagher know that they are not counting on him for 2024-25. We will see if he completes his move to Atletico or if he is forced to stay in the Premier League instead.
