Gavi is a key midfielder at FC Barcelona. So far this season he has played 14 games, eleven as a starter. He has already played 940 minutes, so Xavi will have to start thinking about resting him if he doesn't want him to arrive exhausted at the World Cup.
Gavi, who won the Kopa Trophy and the Goldey Boy 2022, spoke to 'France Football' about how he feels at Barca. The midfielder made special mention of his former coach Ronald Koeman.
"I will always be grateful to Koeman for what he taught me. He gave me my first chance," he told the Gallic magazine.
Despite the fact that every game is complicated, Gavi said he only felt pressure once and it wasn't at Barça but with the Spanish national team: "In San Siro, before facing Italy in the semi-finals of the Nations League, it was the first time I was nervous. My legs were shaking, but as soon as the game started I felt comfortable".
Gavi's only regret of his career was not being able to play alongside Messi on the pitch. "I was unlucky," he said.
The footballer explained that his nickname Gavi, because his name is Pablo Paez Gaviria, comes from his childhood. "In my first team there were two players with the name Pablo. To avoid misunderstandings, the coach started calling me Gavi," he revealed.
Finally, he made it clear what his objective has always been. "Playing for Barça was my dream", he concluded. Objective achieved for the talented midfielder.
