Is Mount the next to suffer United's '7' curse?

Mason Mount struggled in his first game for Manchester United at Old Trafford. The English international had a golden chance in front of an open goal and inexplicably fluffed his lines, missing out on the opportunity to put the Red Devils ahead in their pre-season friendly against RC Lens. Many fans are worrying about a return of the 'curse' that has plagued United's '7's since Ronaldo left the club and the shirt behind.

Mason Mount did not have a flawless debut at Old Trafford. Manchester United's new '7' played his first home game for the club as they faced RC Lens and unfortunately made a rather remarkable error.
The English international had the opportunity to put his side ahead in the first quarter of an hour, as Alejandro Garnacho set him up inside the box faced with a virtually open goal from six yards out.
Mount was faced with just a struggling centre-back and as he went to strike the ball, he failed to connect and scuffed it, tripping himself over in the process - to the shock and horror of the home fans in the stadium.
The miss left fans speculating over whether he would be the next victim of United's '7 curse' - a fan theory following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 that any player subsequently wearing the iconic shirt would be doomed to failure at Old Trafford.
'Victims' have included Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay, who although they struggled for the Red Devils, have since gone on to shine elsewhere, prompting fans to make the link. It remains to be seen if Mount can redeem himself as the 2023-24 season approaches.
Luckily for Mount, despite going 0-1 down against their French opponents, United did manage to pull off a comeback with three goals from Marcus Rashford, Antony and Casemiro giving them the win in the second half.
