The Barca-Juventus game that was scheduled for the early hours of Saturday morning has been officially suspended due to a bout of illness within the 'Cules' squad.
The club issued a statement on the matter and shortly afterwards Joan Laporta spoke to the club's official media: "We woke up with the misfortune that a large number of players in our squad had symptoms of intestinal viral gastroenteritis, which causes vomiting. Life and football, sometimes, surprises us with these situations, which stop a dynamic and change our plans".
"We were really looking forward to seeing La Liga champions with the new signings of the season. It is a very hard blow, especially for those affected, and I hope and wish them a speedy recovery. It's hard because all the Barca fans were looking forward to being in San Francisco, playing a match against Juve. It's not going to be possible for this reason, due to force majeure," he added.
Finally, the Barca president announced that they will try to compensate the fans. "Unfortunately, the match has been cancelled because the Summer Tour is very tightly scheduled and we don't have any more dates for this match to take place. We are going to see how we can compensate. We have to accept it," he concluded.
