Alexis Mac Allister was forced off injured in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League matchday 15 fixture at Bramall Lane on Wednesday.
The Argentinean player was one of the reinforcements of the summer transfer window and is making an impact in the Reds midfield alongside Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.
His injury is a huge blow for Liverpool as they will not be able to count on him for the next few games. He is suffering from a knee injury and his recovery time is unknown.
"Macca, it was a shame. Early, he stepped on his knee, there was a cut. As long as the wound was open, we just strapped it, obviously it was painful but he could play," Jurgen Klopp told reporters.
He went on to add: "Then we stitched it but then obviously it got a bit tighter there and then he couldn’t move anymore. Now we have to see how long that will take. I hope not too long."
