Atletico Madrid captain Koke Resurreccion apologised to the fans on Thursday for the defeat and elimination in the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Athletic Club. He acknowledged that his team "were not up to the task" in the second leg and claimed that his side will "compete in La Liga and the Champions League".
"We had a game plan and in two opportunities that came our way they scored two goals. We weren't at the level we needed to be. A tough day," summed up the midfielder.
"At home we had the chance to win, we didn't, we tried our best and it wasn't possible. We apologise to our fans who came and to the people at home, who wanted us to be in the final. We were not up to the task," he insisted.
"We are going to compete for La Liga and the Champions League. We know that La Liga is very difficult, we are going to try to finish as high up as possible, and in the Champions League we have the second leg at home against one of the best teams in Europe. We're going to try to change our image and give everything in Europe," he added.
