In Google's ranking of trends for 2024, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal appears as the most searched footballer in Spain in 2024. The ranking prepared by the world's most popular search engine provides a list of the most searched terms, offering a reflection of the interests, concerns and trends in society that defined the year.
Google shows the most repeated words in the search engine and the most important moments that have defined the past year in areas such as politics, science, entertainment, technology and sport.
Lamine Yamal is the top searcher in Spain in the subcategory of footballers, ahead of four other national teammates, Nico Williams, Marc Cucurella, Dani Olmo and Alvaro Morata, in that order.
The young FC Barcelona player reached the highest peak of searches on Google Spain between 7 and 13 July, during the knockout phase of the last European Championship in which Spain were crowned champions.
At just 17 years of age, his breakthrough in football has led him to become the youngest player to obtain such recognition, surpassing even Neymar Jr, who was the most searched for player on two occasions (2019 and 2021).
Internationally, the Google platform has confirmed that the Barcelona star was the third most searched athlete this year, behind the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif and the American boxer Mike Tyson.
Finally, Lamine Yamal is also the eighth most searched for person in the world, behind personalities such as Donald Trump, Kate Middleton and Kamala Harris.
