Like many of the managers of the football world, Luis Enrique has spoken to the press ahead of the beginning of the 2023-24 season. Paris Saint-Germain will kick off their domestic title defense on Saturday at home to Lorient, and there are some challenges that are still unresolved within the club.
The main headline-maker this summer has been Kylian Mbappe, and it's clear that the club are yet to reach any kind of agreement with the player, whether that's about selling him, renewing him or neither of the two.
New manager Enrique remains hopeful that the situation can be "resolved positively", and believes that precedent will help the two parties come together.
"This is a matter that already happened in the past, that was resolved positively between the club and the player, before I was here", he began. "And I hope that what happened in the past will happen again - that the club and the player reach an agreement. That is what I would like".
However, he echoed the words of his club's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, issued in warning to the French striker, that there is no one individual that comes above the club.
"Having said that, I remember our president's words, the philosophy of the club is very clear: the club is above all players, coaches, football directors, and it is something that I fully share".
