Spanish striker Joselu Mato has been named in Carlo Ancelotti's squad for Real Madrid's La Liga game at home to Alaves on Thursday (21:30 CET) despite missing training on Wednesday due to fever.
The 20-man squad provided by the Italian manager includes only 15 first-team players, as he has eight absentees due to injury.
The following players are out of the squad: France's Ferland Mendy, with a minor muscle injury; Brazil's Vinicius Junior and Turkey's Arda Guler with muscle tears; Spain's Dani Carvajal, with a soleus injury in his left leg; Belgium's Thibaut Courtois, Brazil's Eder Militao and Austria's David Alaba, all long-term absentees with knee injuries; and France's Eduardo Camavinga with a ruptured external lateral ligament in his right knee.
Due to the large number of absentees through injury, the Real Madrid coach had to call up five home-grown players to complete the squad for his last game of 2023.
The youth academy players who complete the list of called-up players are: goalkeeper Fran Gonzalez, right-back Vinicius Tobias, centre-back Raul Asencio -who makes his debut in a first team call-up-, midfielder Nico Paz and striker Gonzalo Garcia.
Goalkeepers: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Andriy Lunin, Fran Gonzalez.
Defenders: Lucas Vazquez, Nacho Fernandez, Antonio Rudiger, Fran Garcia, Vinicius Tobias, Raul Asencio.
Midfielders: Aurelien Tchouameni, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Fede Valverde, Dani Ceballos, Jude Bellingham, Nico Paz.
Forwards: Joselu Mato, Rodrygo Goes, Brahim Diaz, Gonzalo Garcia.
