Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia returned to competitive action on Tuesday night, playing 45 minutes for Manchester United U21s against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Trophy.
The full-back had not played since May 2023 due to a long-term injury and after 17 months on the sidelines featured for the first 45 minutes of the match before being replaced by Harry Amass.
Malacia made 39 appearances for the Red Devils in his first season in 2022-23 but since then has struggled with injuries and has undergone two knee surgeries.
The club posted an image on Instagram welcoming the player's return. "SO good to see you back out there, Ty", while team-mate Marcus Rashford responded with a “Twinnn” accompanied it with three love heart emojis.
The defender played at left-back in the EFL Trophy match but although he is back, it remains to be seen when he will return to the first team and if he will get a place in new coach Ruben Amorim's squad.
