The Europa League match between Manchester United and Twente, taking place on the 25th of September, forces Man City into a tight schedule as Pep´s men will have to play twice within the span of two days.
It was 2015 when the two Manchester clubs last played on the same day and the same hour, both squads busy with their respective cup matches. Man City against Crystal Palace and United against Middlesbrough. For this occasion, the police have denied City to play on the same day as the Red Devils. This means that after the super Sunday showdown against Arsenal, crucial for the tilte race, the team will have to be on the pitch again just 49 hours later for their Carabao Cup match against Watford.
With the Champions League fixtures starting after the international break, it is probable that Pep Guardiola wil have to count on the full extend of his squad for EFL Cup matches.
This month only, Manchester City will play 5 times within 15 days. 4 of these fixtures seeing them being hosts. The run of matches will start on the 14th of September, against Brentford at the Etihad, followed by the Champions League game against Inter Milan on the 18th, Arsenal on the 22nd, Watford on the 24th, and finally concluding with Newcastle at St. James' Park on the 28th.
Following a 4 year winning streak between the 17/18 and 20/21 seasons, the EFL cup has been the missing element from City´s trophy cabinet for the past three consecutive years.
Pep Guardiola will expect to start his path in this year's edition with a win in a match that is more than approachable for his team.
