Ousmane Dembele's performance has improved a lot this season. The Frenchman has established himself on the right flank as a reliable option for Xavi Hernandez and his playing time has got more regular with fewer injuries, something that has always hampered him.
It is true that the Frenchman has missed important games this season, such as against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, but it has been one of his best seasons as a Barca player. That is why Barca want to secure his future at the Camp Nou before the start of the next campaign.
According to 'Sport', the current Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany, who is in charge until 30th June, wants to close the renewal of the '7' before he leaves. The former Borussia Dortmund man's contract expires in June 2024 and they do not want him to start the next season without without his renewal closed.
In other words, they want to avoid what happened last year, when Dembele could have signed as a free agent with any club, but decided to remain at the Catalan giants. The relationship with Xavi Hernandez is extraordinary and he knows he is a starter in attack.
