Leo Messi has spent nearly the last two years and a half years promoting Saudi Arabia. He has done so through holidays with his family and on his social media accounts, which reach millions.
On Monday, the 'New York Times' brought to light the contract that the Argentinian star signed on January 1st 2021, which stipulates the amounts Messi would earn with his publicity posts.
In total, the world champion reportedly earnt up to 22.5 million euros for social media posts, occasional appearances and commercials and some expenses-paid trips.
It is worth noting that despite this, Leo Messi chose not to sign for Al-Hilal, the Saudi side that had been trying to tempt him with a staggering offer. Instead, Messi will play next season with Inter Miami.
Some of the annual amounts:
- €1.8 million for a 5-day family holiday, or two 3-day holidays, with travel expenses and hotels paid for by the Saudi government.
- €1.8 million for promotion of Saudi Arabia on his social media, as well as promoting the country while there on holiday.
