Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho and his club Roma have reached an agreement with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) prosecutor's office and will each pay a fine of 20,000 euros following the coach's accusations against the referees in his team's match against Sassuolo.
The prosecutor's office had opened a case against Mourinho after he accused the main referee, Matteo Marcenaro, of not having "the emotional stability" for a "match of this level", and the VAR, Marco di Bello, who he said "always" brings "bad luck" to Roma.
"The referee worries me, we've had him 3 times as fourth official and the feeling is that he doesn't have the emotional stability for a match of this level," he told a press conference about Marcenaro, before adding: "His profile doesn't leave me calm, not even the one who will be on the VAR, he's a referee with whom we've always had bad luck".
Following the agreement reached between the parties, Mourinho has been fined 20,000 euros, an amount that will be given to the Italian Association against Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma (AIL), as will Roma.
"AS Roma and the coach, convincingly complying with the assessment of the Federal Prosecutor, accept on a consensual basis the commination of a financial penalty to be transferred in full in favour of the Italian Leukaemia Association (AIL)," the club said in a statement.
