Today is a sad day for Sevilla fans. The team's star player Yassine Bounou has left the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium to start a new adventure in Saudi Arabia.
The Moroccan goalkeeper has played a key role at Sevilla since joining in the 2019/20 season on loan from Girona. The 32-year-old was subsequently bought by the Sevillian outfit for four million euros.
Bono was crucial in the 3-2 win over Inter Milan in the Europa League final in 2020 just as he was in the final of the same European competition against Roma this campaign. Sevilla beat Mourinho's side 4-1 on penalties thanks to superb performances from the goalkeeper.
He was also a key player for Walid Regragui at the World Cup in Qatar with Morocco. His goalkeeping skills caught the attention of several top clubs such as Bayern Munich, who offered 12 million euros for his transfer this summer.
The German side's offer was rejected as the La Liga side were not going to let their first-choice goalkeeper leave for that fee. The Moroccan lost his prominent role in the team with the arrival of new manager Jose Luis Mendilibar.
As a result, he considered looking for a new destination for next season. Al Hilal, who have just signed Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain, made an offer of 21 million euros for his services.
The Saudi club's bid was accepted by the Spanish side despite the goalkeeper's value to the squad as his contract was due to expire in 2025. Yassine Bounou has signed a three-year contract and will be part of Saudi football's progress.
