West Ham have finally hired their manager to start work ahead of next season. A fortnight ago the Hammers announced the departure of David Moyes at the end of the season, and since then the London club have been searching for a replacement.
In recent days former Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui, who left Wolves before the start of the season due to disagreements with the Wanderers board, has been linked with a possible arrival at the London Stadium, which was made official on Thursday morning in a statement posted on the club's website.
"West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as the Club’s new men’s Head Coach. The former Spain, Porto, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Wolverhampton Wanderers coach will officially begin work with the Hammers on 1st July," reads the statement.
"I feel very happy, first of all, to be able to be part of the future of this big Club,” said Lopetegui. “We will try to put our stamp on the Club. I am where I want to be. I am here because I want to be here and for us it was a fantastic day when we closed our agreement here because we our commitment is 100 per cent to be here," the Spanish coach told 'West Ham TV'.
