Just a day after the confirmation that Javier Mascherano will be Inter Miami's new manager, the Florida club followed up with another massive news: Luis Suarez has extended his contract with Inter Miami and will therefore stay at the club until the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.
"I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy," he said. Suarez contributed to his side's victories in the Leagues Cup and Supporters Shield thanks to their best overall record during the regular season.
"In 2024, Luis brought to Inter all the elements that make him one of the best strikers of all time. His performance for us was elite, and we are excited to see him continue with us next season," said Inter Miami's president of football operations Raul Sanllehi. "Luis was not only our top scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be underestimated," he said.
The striker will continue with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets for at least another season, and will be led by another ex-'Azulgrana' in Mascherano in the upcoming MLS campaign. The 2025 season will mark Suarez's second at Miami, as he joined in December 2023 after a two-year stint in South American sides Gremio and Nacional.
With another season under his belt to go, the Uruguayan will have the opportunity to climb up Inter Miami's all time top scorer's ranking. Suarez currently sits fourth with 25 goals for the side owned by David Beckham, though he is just behind Higuain (29), Campana (32) and Messi (34), who occupy the podium places.
