The former Sporting Lisbon boss will be in charge of a disastrous Manchester United after leaving the Portuguese club in a bid to improve his managerial status in one of Europe's top leagues - the Premier League.

Manchester United removed Erik ten Hag from his post on Monday after a 2-1 loss by West Ham the previous day left one of the world's wealthiest clubs 14th in the Premier League.
Ruben Amorim, 39, quickly emerged as the leading contender to replace him following the Red Devils' woeful start to the campaign. The English club decided to pay his €10m release clause to secure the coach's services as soon as possible and he will take the reins of the team until 2027.
The Portuguese coach took charge of Sporting Lisbon in March 2020 and has won two titles with the club since his arrival. Now he has accepted the challenge of leading the Red Devils to success although the 39-year-old wanted to avoid giving any clues about his future when asked by reporters.
It will be no easy task for Amorim as the new board led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have their eyes on United's progress to avoid making the same mistakes they made with Erik ten Hag, who won two trophies - the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 - in his time at Old Trafford despite poor results.
The new manager will stay with the Portuguese league leaders for their next three matches, including next week's Champions League match against Manchester City.
Amorim is likely to take charge at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his first encounter set to be Manchester United's away visit to Ipswich Town on November 24.
