After 17 seasons at the Sanchez-Pizjuan spread over two spells, right-back Jesus Navas has decided it is time to leave Sevilla, as he did in 2013.
"Sevilla's greatest legend announces that he is leaving at the end of the season," the club said on social media. In the statement, the club recalls the extensive experience of the defender, who will leave "as the most capped and decorated player (8)".
According to Sevilla, Jesus Navas announced his decision on Thursday morning to all his team-mates and the coaching staff during Thursday's training session at the Jose Ramon Cisneros Palacios training complex.
"Sevilla wishes Jesus Navas the best of luck in his new professional challenge, and thanks him for the dedication, professionalism and honesty with which he has defended the Sevilla shirt, of which he has become its greatest emblem," it adds.
The legend will be able to say farewell to his fans on 25th May, when Sevilla host Barcelona. In the event that the match is rescheduled, the farewell will also take place on Saturday at 8pm.
If Navas has second thoughts and wants to start a new stage at the club, albeit away from the pitch, "Sevilla opens the doors for the future with regard to a possible return home to begin a new stage in another professional role".
Be that as it may, with four Europa Leagues, two Copa del Rey, one European Super Cup and one Spanish Super Cup, 688 games played for Sevilla, 38 goals scored and 84 assists, Navas leaves the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan at the age of 38. It remains to be seen what he decides regarding his professional career.
