OFFICIAL: Simon Kjaer leaves Milan

Simon Kjaer's time at Milan is over. At the age of 35, the San Siro club confirmed that the captain will not renew his contract, which expires on 30th June, so the final chapter of his career has begun. It would be logical to think of a retirement, but journalist Fabrizio Romano, who is an expert in transfer market matters, has reacted, on his social networks, indicating that the Dane is "available as a free agent". It is known that he will be looking for a team.
The defender signed as a 'Rossoneri' in September 2020, after a loan spell at Atalanta from Sevilla. The Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan outfit received 3 million euros for his sale and he soon found himself playing a key role in the schemes of Stefano Pioli, who has been his coach throughout his stay. As the seasons went on, however, his playing time decreased.
A key point of his time in Serie A was his return after Euro 2021. Wearing the armband for his national team, he set an example to the world when he moved Christian Eriksen to the side after he suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of a match. He also ordered his compatriots to form a barrier around him while he was being resuscitated and comforted his partner.
Back in Milan, he was handed the captaincy for three seasons in which he has taken the field 64 times. It will be 65 when he takes the field against Salernitana in the last match of the season for the Rossoneri, who, presumably, will also bid farewell to their coach - Olivier Giroud, too, is leaving.
