The uncertainty over the future of Xavi Simons, who has been rumoured for Barca or Bayern Munich, has come to an end. RB Leipzig have officially announced that he will continue to be part of their squad for one more season.
The German club have agreed with PSG, the player's parent club, to extend the 21-year-old's loan for one year until June 2025. No option to buy is included in the deal.
Xavi Simons shone at Leipzig last season and was a key player for Marco Rose. In fact, the coach himself has already told the media that the midfielder's decision was to remain with the Lipsien outfit.
The Amsterdam-born player, who will wear the No 10 on his shirt in his new stage, participated in 43 matches during the 2023-24 season in which he was able to score 10 goals and distribute 13 assists.
With the Netherlands, he had an outstanding European Championship, playing 6 games for his national team and scoring a beauty against England in the semi-finals, although he was unable to reach the final.
The continuity of Simons joins the renewal of Benjamin Sesko in a bid by the German team to retain its talents. Next on the list should be Dani Olmo, although his transfer to FC Barcelona could become a reality later this August.
