Pedri will not play on Sunday against Cadiz on matchday 22 in La Liga. The midfielder suffered an injury to his right thigh against Man Utd and he could be out for up to four weeks.
Barcelona's medical staff are hoping to get the Spanish international back for the Real Madrid clash in La Liga on 19th March. That could be key to deciding the title race.
In theory, Pedri will miss six matches: four in La Liga (Cadiz, Almeria, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao), the second leg of the Europa League tie against Man Utd at Old Trafford and the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final versus Real Madrid.
Barca's doctor want to bring him back slowly so that he does not suffer a recurrence of an injury, like what happened last year. That saw him sidelined for a long time.
Pedri published an emotional message on social media: "It's been a tough day, but thanks to your messages and support, it's been easier to take. Now I'm only thinking about being 100% when I return."
"Off the pitch, I'll be supporting more than everyone else. I've no doubt that the team will give us plenty to shout about in the coming weeks. Forca, Barca," the former Las Palmas player wrote on Twitter.
The truth is that Xavi Hernandez will have to adapt his team to Pedri's absence for the Cadiz game. He has been without Pedri on six other occasions this season: three in La Liga (Cadiz, Mallorca and Girona), two in the Copa del Rey (Intercity and Ceuta) and one in the Champions League (Viktoria Plzen).
Those who are most likely to take his place are Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie, Sergi Roberto and even Pablo Torre if the coach decides not to add another striker.
