Gerard Pique announced on social media that, against Almeria this coming Saturday, it will be his last game as a Barcelona player at the Camp Nou.
"I've decided that it's time to bring this journey to its end," said the youth player. The athlete did not want to be talked about off the pitch and decided to announce it to put an end to the speculation.
"I've always said that after Barça there will be no other team, and that's how it will be," added the World Cup winner with Spain in 2010.
Despite the fact that there are two home games left for Barça this year, Pique said that he will never play on the Camp Nou pitch again. And that's when he dropped the bombshell of the day: "This Saturday will be my last game there.
The 35-year-old centre-back lost his place from this season onwards. The arrival of new young players dropped him to the bench, but he still tried to win Xavi's confidence by starting the pre-season earlier.
"Sooner or later, I will be back. See you at Camp Nou. Visca Barça always," he ended his video on his personal Twitter account.
Pique made more than 600 appearances for Barcelona during his career, 588 of them as a starter and scored 53 goals in the blue and white jersey.
In terms of achievements as a player, he won: one World Cup, one European Championship, four Champions Leagues, eight Spanish Leagues, seven King's Cups, three Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, six Spanish Super Cups, one Premier League and one English Cup.
