Former Netherlands manager Louis Van Gaal, who was in charge of the national team at the World Cup in Qatar, hinted that Argentina received help because it was in their interest for Lionel Messi to win the biggest competition.
"I don't really want to say much about it. When you see how Argentina gets the goals and how we get the goals, and how some Argentina players overstepped the mark and were not punished, then I think it all premeditated game," he told 'NOS'.
The 72-year-old, who coached Barcelona and Bayern Munich, referred to the quarter-final when the Netherlands lost to Argentina and was asked if he thought the tournament was rigged.
"I mean everything I say. That Messi should become world champion? I think so, yes."
